Charge
The Performance Capture Standards Subgroup will research tape formats,
camera, lighting, and other production technologies and develop
a set of recommendations and best practices for capturing a live
performance event.
Considerations
- Mobility of recording team (e.g. dedicated stage vs. ethnographic
field work setup vs. multi-site performance)
- Price and Technical constraints (expertise of people involved,
equipment budget, etc.)
- Degree of privacy of event/intended audience (e.g. intended
for world-wide distribution, for limited distribution as in to
a class, for private and/or archival purposes only)
- Allowable Intrusiveness of Capture (e.g. recording a sports
game—no interfering with the ‘performers' allowed
or desirable—vs. creating a ‘making-of' documentary—possible
to do retakes, scenes performed specifically for the recording,
etc.)
- As a corollary, type of capture: real time/one take recording
vs. edited final document
Best Practices
- What sort of releases to request from those involved in the
performance (for a spectrum of rights including reformatting and/or
re-mastering for preservation, who may access when, re-broadcasting,
re-packaging, and rights to make other changes such as noise removal,
colorization, color-correcting, sharpness increasing, etc.)
