Internet2 Activities at SC2003
15-21 November 2003
Phoenix, AZ
The Supercomputing
Conference 2003 (SC2003) highlights the most innovative developments
in high-performance computing and advanced networking. The conference
and exhibits feature the latest technological developments in fields
such as information architectures, data storage, analysis and visualization,
optical networking, scalable computing, scientific applications
and distributed systems. SC Global, held in conjunction with SC2003,
showcases achievements in the arts and sciences among dozens of
remote locations and provides interactive access to these presentations
to audiences around the world.
Internet2, and Internet2 members, are participating in several
aspects of SC2003.

The Internet2
End-to-End Performance Initiative Performance Environment System
(E2E piPES) will be one of the featured demonstrations at the Internet2
booth in the SC2003
exhibit area. E2E piPES indicates performance capabilities and
locates performance problems along the path between two computers
connected by the Abilene
network, participating campuses, regional networks, and gigaPoPs—significantly
improving the likelihood that advanced Internet applications can
operate at peak performance.
Other featured projects in the Internet2 exhibit booth include
the University of Tennessee's
LoCI project and PlanetLab.
In addition, more than 40 other Internet2 members are exhibiting
throughout the show floor at SC2003. Click one of the following

SC Global and Webcasts
SC Global
2003 features presentations on innovative uses of interactive
technology and also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the technology
required to produce this geographically distributed event, which
takes place 18-20 November in conjunction with SC2003. Using Access
Grid nodes worldwide, SC Global will feature participation from
20 remote locations, 7 countries, and 5 sovereign tribal nations,
distributed across 4 continents. Several Internet2 members are presenting
at or providing technical support for SC Global. Maria Williams,
University of New Mexico, is among the speakers for “Communities
Collaborating to Bridge the Digital Divide: The Tribal Virtual Network,”
a consortium of Native American tribal museums and education centers
that use the Access Grid to provide outreach to underserved communities.
Another session will feature a panel discussion on the future of
the Access Grid with Ian Foster, Argonne National Labs, and some
of the top researchers in the grid community.
SC Global is accessible to sites running the AG
Toolkit. In addition, Internet2 is providing an Access Grid
stream of SC Global to the inSORS
venue server for users with inSORS
software. Internet2 is also providing a VBrick
MPEG-2 stream, accessible to anyone using the free VBrick
Streamplayer client, in addition to a Windows
Media stream. Please refer to the SC
Global technical guide for more information.
SCinet
Internet2 is also providing support for SCinet,
the high-performance network built each year to support the SC conference.
