Internet2 now provides four VBrick
6200 MPEG-2 Video Encoder/Decoders as part of our short-term
loaner equipment pool. VBrick
is an Internet2 Corporate
Sponsor. The VBrick 6200 is an MPEG-2 video encoder/decoder
that supports NTSC and PAL with composite and S-video inputs. It
provides DVD quality video and delivers unicast or multicast streaming
content over IP networks. The VBrick 6200 requires two 10 Mbps bandwidth
network connections. In addition to the VBrick 6200 unit, an echo
cancellation mic is also included with this loaner equipment. Your
site will need to provide the camera, speakers, additional microphones
(if needed), and TV monitor to setup and run your videoconference.
VBrick's StreamPlayer software
is free and can be downloaded from the VBrick website. This will
allow any student or faculty at an Internet2 Member University to
view the MPEG-2 video content on their PC as long as their PC is
directly connected to the campus network (Ethernet10/100BaseT).
StreamPlayer works with PC´s only and does not currently work
with Macintoshes.
